The living room is in a victorian building, has high ceiling and a big bay window.
The owners wanted a more modern decor, which blending well with the old building's character, and perhaps moody dark wall colour, and colours inspired by the Orla Kiely wallpaper, they used in another room.
So in the new design needed new wall colour, new sofa (there is space only for a really small one, like a love seat), new fabrics for their 2 armchairs and foot stool, decision to change or keep the dining tables and chairs they have, new rug and better layout (there is a drum set, the room need to accommodate too), also help with decision on extra storage and light (keep the one they had just bought or changeit?) They also had a kilim rug, which wanted to use as a tapestry in the room.
The design process is a visual communication. When I get the brief, I start to research and brainstorm ideas. Google is one of my best friend. Especially the picture searches.
Here is the original room
I put together 4 ideas for them in the form of collages, including the key elements of the designs, one of the ideas has a dark blue moody wall colour.
They really liked the 3rd design with the dark blue wall, so we started to refine that design. I put together in a photo collage with different variations, help them to decide wheather keep the dining tables and chairs or buy new ones? If buy new ones what should they choose?
Few variation we tried:
I got back few pictures from them - no professional pictures have been taken yet, due lock down restrictions:
Since the room transformation, they decided to put the property on the market. It sold really quickly. They asked me to help with the new property too.
